An Evaporative Condenser is a cooling device used to condense refrigerant or process fluids, leveraging the natural cooling power of evaporation to boost efficiency-common in industrial, HVAC, and refrigeration systems.​

Core Function and Key Components​

Its main role is to remove heat from a hot, gaseous fluid and turn it into a liquid. Key components include a fan, a water distribution system, fill media , a sump, and coils that carry the hot fluid. Unlike air-cooled condensers that rely solely on air, it combines air and water evaporation for better heat transfer.​

Step-by-Step Working Principle​

First, the hot gaseous fluid flows through the coils of the Evaporative Condenser. The water distribution system sprays a fine mist of water over the coils and fill media. At the same time, the fan pulls ambient air through the fill media-this air comes into contact with the water, causing some water to evaporate. Evaporation absorbs heat from the coils and the hot fluid inside, cooling the fluid until it condenses into a liquid. The condensed fluid then exits the coils to continue its cycle in the system. The unevaporated water collects in the sump, where it's recirculated back to the distribution system, reducing water waste.​

Efficiency and Advantages​

This principle makes Evaporative Condenser more energy-efficient than traditional air-cooled models, as evaporation transfers heat faster than air alone. It also uses less water than water-cooled condensers that drain water continuously, making it a balance of efficiency and sustainability for heat removal needs.
